Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist Insurance:

Uninsured (underinsured) car insurance is a unique kind of car insurance policy. This insurance policy offers you and your passenger’s coverage against injuries caused by an uninsured motorist who is at fault. In situations, where you and/or your passengers are hurt or injured by a car that is uninsured or under insured, your insurer will compensate you for medical and other related expenses. Compensation for death because of such incidents is also covered with this insurance.

Uninsured/under-insured Driver Car insurance, also compensates “hit-and-run” cases. Additionally, Uninsured (underinsured) motorist insurance compensates for settlement of lawsuits from an uninsured or underinsured motorist.

It is important to note that this insurance only deals with the expenses incurred due to injuries to you and/or your passengers. The insurance does not cover any physical damage that your car sustains in the process. This means that if an uninsured or underinsured car damages your vehicle. You will have to look for your car collision policy for compensation against these damages. As there would be insufficient liability insurance coverage from the Uninsured (underinsured) car.

Depending on the type of coverage that you buy with your uninsured/underinsured motorist policy, your insurer is responsible for paying off your expenses for medical treatment and other related costs. It also offers compensation for suffering and pain.

Many uninsured and underinsured motorist policies provides you coverage in any motor vehicle you are in at the time of accident or even if you are on foot (walking).

Uninsured Motorist Coverage is mandatory in some states.
