Renter Insurance:
Renter’s insurance is developed for covering the interest of apartments/homes tenants. It provides coverage to renters against loss of their personal belongings and stuff as a result of a fire, lightening, burst water pipes and similar accidents at their rented place. Moreover, Renter insurance also provide certain level of liability coverage should someone be injured on your rented property.
Despite of its clear advantages, many renters do not take Renter insurance seriously and think of it as a redundant product to that of Property Owner’s insurance. This assumption is based on the misconception that landlord’s property insurance will cover their personal belongings as well in case of any accident, which is not correct. The reality is that your landlord’s insurance only covers the structural part of the property (apartment) if it is destroyed/damaged in some way but does not cover the tenant’s contents and stuffs inside the apartment.
A renters insurance policy stipulates, coverage of your personal possessions against specific threads and dangers (named perils) like fire, theft etc. It is important to note that renter’s belongings are not covered in case of flood or earthquake.
To ensure a better security plan for your belongings, the first thing you should do before selecting a Renter’s insurance policy, is to thoroughly analyze your situation and do risk analysis. Be clear about all the potential risks and any special condition in regards with your surroundings, environment etc… and then match it with various renter insurance offerings in the market for a better coverage. |
